The new series of Death In Paradise will start on BBC One on Tuesday 8th January, it has been confirmed.

The crime-drama-comedy stars Ben Miller as the quintessentially English and fish-out-of-water Detective Inspector Richard Poole solving murders on the Caribbean island of Saint-Marie, helped by his investigative team comprising Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey, played by Sara Martins, and police officers Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) and Fidel Best (Gary Carr). Their boss is Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington.

As with series one, there will be eight episodes in the new run. The show is filmed on Guadeloupe, and episode one of the new series, which airs at 9pm, guest-stars James Cosmo as Roger Seymour, Tom Ward as Harry Seymour, Stephanie Beacham as Nicole Seymour, and Estella Daniels as Kim Neville.

Sean Pertwee is among the latest guest stars announced for the second series of Death In Paradise.

Also to appear in the BBC One crime drama/comedy, currently being filmed on Guadeloupe, are Hannah Spearritt and James Murray, reunited with their Primeval co-star Ben Miller, who plays the fish-out-of-water Detective Inspector Richard Poole.

Returning alongside Miller as regulars are Danny John-Jules (Red Dwarf) as police officer Dwayne Myers, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Sara Martins as Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey, and Gary Carr as police officer Fidel Best.

Singer-songwriter Jamelia has been signed up for a cameo in her first TV role, it was revealed in July. Other guest stars lined up for the eight-part series are Shaun Parkes, Cherie Lunghi, Lucy Davis, Mathew Horne, James Fleet, Neil Pearson, Ralf Little, and Lucien Lavisount, as well as Michael Brandon, Bryan Dick, Dexter Fletcher, Kelly Adams, Kenneth Cranham, Stephanie Beacham, Amanda Mealing, Tom Ward, Patrick Baladi, and Gemma Jones.

The series returns early next year.

Ben Miller (Primeval) again stars as Detective Inspector Richard Poole - the uptight English police officer uncomfortable in such exotic surroundings - and he is joined once more by Danny John-Jules (Red Dwarf) as police officer Dwayne Myers, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Sara Martins as Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey (pictured below with Miller), and Gary Carr as police officer Fidel Best.

Jamelia said: Other guest stars are Michael Brandon, Bryan Dick, Dexter Fletcher, Kelly Adams, Kenneth Cranham, Stephanie Beacham, Amanda Mealing, Tom Ward, Patrick Baladi, and Gemma Jones.

Guadeloupe once again doubles for the fictitious island of Saint Marie, and as with the first series there will be eight 60-minute episodes when the show returns to BBC One early next year.

Co-executive producer Belinda Campbell said: Fellow co-executive producer Polly Hill said: The first series aired between 25th October and 13th December 2011, averaging 6 million viewers per episode.
